“I’m not going to beat around the bush about this . I was one of those kids that didn’t fit in . I was a weirdo in pretty much every respect . I liked being on my own, I loved books, and I loved reading atlases. I began learning Japanese in primary school and I guess I was drawn to the fact that there was a whole other group of people speaking another language . For me as a child to realise that people not only did things in a different way but they also spoke in a different way, well, it really opened up my mind . Languages gave me an awareness of the fact that there were opportunities to be valued in society and to be accepted at a time when I wasn’t really fitting in anywhere.” (1/3)

Languages: English, French and Japanese
